2021’s annual Chenin Blanc Report sponsored by multinational financial services company ‘Prescient’ attracted 90 entries received from 67 producers all of which were tasted blind (labels out of sight) by a three-person panel, with scoring awarded according to the 100-point quality scale.
Cavalli Estate’s ‘Filly ‘Chenin Blanc 2020 scored an astounding 96 points and was crowned South Africa’s number 1 white wine overall.
With that incredible feat in mind, if you thought the 2020 vintage was memorable, just wait until you experience what 2021 had to offer.
Cavalli Chenin Blanc 2021 has the same character and splendour as the 2020 vintage, with Complex aromatics of pear, white peach and lean yellow fruit, baked apple and raw honey on the nose. The palate has a weightless intensity with sublime fruit concentration, fresh acidity and a saline finish.
To understand the unique complexities required to truly elevate this varietal to world class status, one needs to understand its particular context. The Helderberg region lends itself to the maritime climate where Chenin Blanc excels, resulting in wines with distinct elegance.

Our quest to understand the full expression of Chenin blanc will guide us towards our equally awarded white blend, the ‘Cremello’ 2020, followed by the newly, barrel selected released 2021 white blend, a blend of Chenin blanc, Chardonnay, Verdelho and Viognier.
