AWARD-WINNINGESTATE, Cavalli , welcomes families on the lawn of their beautifully manicured garden and invites them to indulge in their limited gourmet picnics, overlooking the vineyards and Helderberg mountain range.
Recently Head Chef Lucas Carsten has taken the reins of the Cavalli kitchen, carrying forward the restaurant’s reputation for seasonal, produce-led cuisine. Carstens is quick to let the seasons and the soils dictate his menu. More than 80 percent of the kitchen’s fresh produce is drawn from Cavalli Estate’s own vegetable gardens, which stretch across more than an acre of land.
Each basket is themed around this particular focus; on locally and sustainably sourced ingredients.
The basket entices with an assortment of local flavours – starting off with spiced nuts, Individual seeded loaves, whipped herb butter, Smoked Stanford cheese, pickled grapes and banting seeded crackers, followed by caramelized red onion & ricotta quiche , Smoked local Franschhoek trout pâté, pickles and, poppy seed lavosh, a hearty portion of free range sesame and ginger chicken sosaties and crispy grain salad with peas and mint. To finish, A decadent Basque cheesecake and citrus madeleines will satisfy the most discerning sweet tooth. Award winning Cavalli Wines can be purchased on the wine tasting terrace by the bottle to complement the picnic.
A Limited number of picnics are available with 24 hour prior booking required.
