Crafted by Rianie Strydom, Cavalli Estate’s esteemed head winemaker, the Reserve White 2024 is a masterful blend of 60% Chenin Blanc, 28% Verdelho, 6% Chardonnay, and 6% Viognier. The result is a wine that captures the complexity of these cultivars while seamlessly uniting them in perfect harmony.

“The challenge and beauty of this blend lie in finding the golden thread that connects these varietals,” said Strydom. “For the 2024 vintage, we focused on precision and balance, allowing the wine to truly reflect its unique terroir and heritage.”

At the heart of the Reserve White 2024 is the estate’s 20-year-old Verdelho block, a cornerstone of this blend and a tribute to Cavalli’s commitment to preserving its viticultural heritage. These mature vines, deeply rooted in the Helderberg region’s soil, impart depth, complexity, and a sense of place to the wine.

The 2024 vintage was shaped by significant rainfall, presenting both challenges and opportunities for the estate’s team. Each cultivar was meticulously hand-picked at optimal ripeness, from Verdelho on 22 January to the later harvests of Chenin Blanc and Chardonnay. This careful timing ensured that every grape variety reached its full potential.

Each batch was vinified separately, allowing for maximum expression of the varietal characteristics before being expertly blended under Strydom’s guidance. The resulting wine showcases layers of stone fruit, citrus, and delicate floral notes, complemented by a textured mouthfeel and a lingering, elegant finish.
