After 10 years of tireless effort and dedication towards the goal of achieving an Eat out award, Cavalli is proud to be a 2023 Eat Out recipient.
A remarkable achievement that attests to the establishment’s culinary excellence. The star-rating system, introduced last year, has fostered inclusivity in the industry. To qualify for the star-rating shortlist, each restaurant must obtain a minimum score of 70 points. The exceptional quality observed in 2023 resulted in over 90 restaurants being visited and rated by judges using Eat Out’s online rating tool. The comprehensive criteria encompass various aspects such as service, ambience, menu, ingredient utilization, techniques, presentation, beverages, brand promise, perceived value, and overall consistency.
Under the guidance of Executive Chef Lucas Carstens, The Restaurant at Cavalli Estate offers a sublime culinary journey, accentuated by locally sourced ingredients procured from trusted suppliers. The distinctive five-course chef’s set menu masterfully incorporates the finest offerings of South African cuisine. This exceptional dining experience is further enhanced by meticulously curated wine pairings from Cavalli’s award-winning collection, as well as breathtaking views of the vineyards and surrounding mountains, setting the stage for a truly elevated gastronomic encounter in the Helderberg region.
With a contemporary twist on classic dishes, The Restaurant at Cavalli Estate prides itself on cultivating its own seasonal herbs and a rich variety of vegetables grown from seeds and cuttings. As South Africa’s first Green-star rated restaurant, the preservation of our natural heritage is of utmost importance to us.
Our culinary philosophy revolves around the commitment to locally sourced and sustainable ingredients. Collaborating with like-minded local producers, we carefully select produce that boasts exceptional flavour, colour, and texture.
We firmly believe in relishing delicious, fresh, and whole foods, prepared in a manner that pays homage to the seasons. Our aspiration is to create dishes that not only delight palates but leave a lasting impression, enticing guests to return time and time again.

Ingredients dictate the menu, we look at ingredients first and then from there the menu develops.
Dishes all start from the ingredients, ingredients inspire me most. We will take a tomato for instance and look at ways we can showcase a tomato in a creative and flavourful way, without manipulating the ingredients too much.
I guess flavour combinations come from experience and knowledge, research and development.
The awards means a lot to the team, recognition for all the hard work they put in. We feel proud to be part of the Eatout’s starred restaurant list.
