January 1, 2021Cavalli Estate’s wines receive prestigious awards!
October 26, 2021We are proud to share that Cavalli Estate was recently inducted into the WWF Conservation Champions programme, making us the fiftieth wine farm to receive this honour. This prestigious award came as a result of several eco-friendly initiatives we implemented at Cavalli Estate. To make our wine estate a healthier environment for both people and the environment we:
- Set aside four hectares of land for conserving the critically endangered renosterveld vegetation.
- Planted thousands of indigenous plants to attract endemic wildlife species and birds to the area.
- Concentrated on energy and water efficiency, management of waste and recycling, and ensuring natural ventilation.
- Ensured that our restaurant actively supports ethical and sustainable practices through sourcing ingredients from meat suppliers who employ pasture-raised farming and seafood suppliers who sell wild-caught and WWF-SASSI green-listed species.
The WWF Conservation Champions programme is a partnership between the South African wine industry and the conservation sector. Its objective is to promote conservation-minded farming practices and implement detailed improvement plans to address pressing environmental risks. Having this mantle ranks us among the few wine farms proactively conserving natural areas and innovating ways to preserve water and achieve energy efficiency and climate adaptation.
Each farm with the Conservation Champions status is awarded the exclusive right to use the striking Conservation Champion logo. This logo features a Cape sugarbird and pink protea, which symbolise the symbiosis of nature.
